An adventure on two wheels through our beautiful Great Allegheny Passage and the C&O Canal National Historical Park, the Yockatomac Trek this year celebrates its 9th annual week-long journey through historic corridors and serene natural settings. The Yockatomac Trek is a cooperative, non-profit, mutually supported bicycle tour, which appeals to all abilities, enabling both first-time cycle-tourists and seasoned veterans of many trips to enjoy our tour. When you’re done, expect a wealth of sensory memories, exciting new friendships, and a great sense of accomplishment!

On the Yockatomac Trek you’ll be able to enjoy the splendor and beauty of the nearly flat historic passage through the Allegheny Mountains from the coastal waters of the Chesapeake Bay backwaters to the inland headwaters of the Ohio River. You'll take in restored aqueducts and lift locks, experience the charm of small-town America, feel the thunder of roaring waterfalls, and absorb the quiet and peaceful surroundings as you travel along our sylvan route at your own pace. You’ll find serenity between yourself and the 300-plus mile endeavor that lies ahead as everyday cares and worries melt away. There’ll be opportunity for plenty of stops along the way to explore, snack, chat with companions, or just pause for quiet reflection.  Enjoy some of the finest scenery, most interesting history, and unparalleled long-distance cycling trails in the eastern United States. Join us on the Yockatomac Trek!

This will be the tenth year -- a full decate -- of the Yockatomac Trek. It's the trip with the longest tradition on this route. To review the itinerary for a previous year, click on the logo for that year:

In the past the The Yockatomac Trek has been a one week ride, loosely affiliated with the Allegheny Trail Alliance.  Now the Yockatomac Trek expands its scope to include several sections of various styles on different dates. Each section has its own organizer and shares the philosophy of the Trek, and they'll all share the sense of community in the trail and of accomplishment in completing the trip. We'll again have polo shirts and riding jerseys with the trip logo available at cost.

The lead section this year is the Classic Yockatomac Trek June 14-22, organized in the same style as the previous nine trips. Organized by Harpo Rogers, it will use hotels and B&Bs, and it will offer van support to carry baggage, meet the trip at lunch, and provide rides for anyone who wants to sit out for half a day or a day.

Other sections, for example, self-supported camping using the primitive camping areas along the trail, may also be scheduled.

By becoming a section of the Yockatomac Trek you'll get a copy of the paper edition of Linking Up for the trip leader and a pin for everyone who completes the entire trip between McKeesport and Washington DC. We'll again have polo shirts and riding jerseys with the trip logo available at cost.-- see details on the Make Mine a Trek page.  If you would like to make your own trip a section of the Yockatomac Trek, send us the information on the Make Mine a Trek page.

Here are the sections that have been scheduled so far.
